Wrestling takes down Anderson, falls to Ohio State in tri-meet
Before Thanksgiving break, the Davidson wrestling team hosted a tri-meet with Ohio State, Anderson and George Mason at Belk Arena. The ’Cats went 1-2 on the day, beating Anderson 42-6, losing to Ohio State by the same score and losing to George Mason 28-16.
Men’s Basketball swipes a win in overtime
I entered Halton Arena at UNC-Charlotte a little overwhelmed by the sheer number of green and white shirts I saw around me. A school of more than 26,000, they outnumber us over 13:1. Yet, as my friends and I walked to our seats, I saw a surprising number of red shirts dotting the stadium, pockets of bright color to show our support – showing that we will travel the distance to cheer for our team.
Football honors 20 seniors in final game
The Davidson Wildcats football team concluded a winless season with a 47-14 loss to the Campbell Camels on Nov. 23. Davidson honored 20 seniors before the contest in their final game at Richardson Stadium. The Wildcats jumped out to an early 8-7 lead, bolstered by a 44-yard kickoff return by Robert Klein ’15 and capped off the drive with his four-yard touchdown run.
Women’s basketball falls to Rutgers
The Davidson women’s basketball team fell at home to Rutgers on Wednesday night, 66-35, on the Wildcats’ worst offensive night of the season so far. Guards Tyler Scaife ’17, Betnijah Laney ’15 and Kahleah Copper ’16 all scored in double figures for the Scarlet Knights, who moved to 6-2 on the season.
Men’s Cross Country places 20th and Women’s XC takes 32nd
The Cross Country season concluded Friday at the NCAA Southeast Regional meet in Earlysville, Virginia. Host University of Virginia won the six-kilometer women’s race and Eastern Kentucky took first on the men’s ten-kilometer course. The Wildcat women finished 32nd in the 38 team field with an average time of 23 minutes, 27.
Wildcats fall to No. 25 Cavaliers in Charlotte
Last January, the Wildcat nation had the opportunity to watch the men’s basketball team square off against Duke in Charlotte at the Time Warner Cable Arena, home to the Charlotte’s professional basketball team the Bobcats. The senior-laden squad entered the second half tied with Blue Devils, one of the top teams in the nation.
’Cats drop home opener
Last Friday, the women’s basketball team hosted the Winthrop University Eagles for the season’s home opener. Winthrop won the game 91-76 behind the hot hands of Dequesha McClanahan ’14 and Erica Williams ’17, who scored 29 and 26 points respectively.
The title race so far: EPL 1/4 season review
With ten games out of 38 played so far in the EPL, we’ve seen some great football, spectacular goals and startling upsets. With the season a quarter of the way done, teams with a genuine chance to challenge for the title have separated themselves from the mid-table fodder.
Wrestling racks up a total of 54 points in the Wolfpack Open
Last Sunday, the Davidson wrestling team competed in the 2013 Wolfpack Open hosted by NC State in Raleigh. The team wrestled well as a whole, scoring a total of 54 team points. Donald Patrick ’14 also wrestled 5-1 on the day, but unfortunately lost in the quarterfinals to wrestle back for fifth place in the 185-pound weight class.
Volleyball seals a five set victory
This weekend, the Davidson women’s volleyball team traveled to Greensboro and Elon for their last two regular season games, splitting their matches against UNCG and Elon. On Friday evening, the Wildcats were out matched by the UNCG Spartans, falling three sets to one by set scores of 15-25, 21-25, 25-19 and 11-25.
