'Cats earn No. 2 seed, clip Highlanders 2-1

Davidson Field Hockey took on NorPac opponent Radford Saturday for family weekend on the Belk Turf Field as it honored its seniors. Christine Rua '12 was the star of the game, scoring the winning goal to defeat Radford 2-1 in the 34th minute.
The Wildcats ended their regular season matches with a 10-7 record and a 4-2 NorPac record, earning Davidson the number two seed. The game was decided in the first half, with Radford scoring the first goal off a penalty corner in the third minute. The Wildcats retaliated with a goal assisted by Finley Amato '13 and scored by Annie Evans '13 in the 18th minute to tie the game at 1-1. Davidson controlled the half, outshooting Radford 10-1. Rua scored the game-winning goal right before the half time mark off an assist by Amato.
Although Radford outshot Davidson in the second half 6-3, goalkeeper Sarah Fisher '13 made three saves to preserve the lead. Davidson held a 13-7 shot advantage for the overall game, maintaining a strong defense in the second half. Rua and Amato lead the team in game winning goals with three apiece. Amato leads the team in assists with 15 this season, ranking third in the all-time Davidson records.
The Wildcats will compete against either UC Davis or Pacific in the first round of the NorPac tournament this coming Thursday. Check davidsonwildcats.com for updates.
